Executive Director, Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Ltd.
Tom grew up in rural Alberta communities, and his family still has a farm out near Waskatenau. As it happened, he has spent his life dedicated to all of Alberta’s rural communities. For decades, he worked with Rural Utilities, Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, eventually becoming Director of the Rural Utilities Section. In 2017, he moved over to the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Ltd. to take on the role as the Rural Gas Grant Program Manager, and by the end of the year had been promoted to Executive Director.
The Federation is a member-owned co-operative association with 81 rural Alberta natural gas utilities under its umbrella. We count over 123,000 homes and businesses as members of our utilities. That’s equal to around 400,000 people in farms, acreages, and rural communities who we serve and provide warmth. Those people are all part of our communities, and we want them to come home safe.
Why we support STARS is because we understand that when the unthinkable happens, time is of the essence. In rural areas, we usually don’t have hospitals 10 minutes away. Ambulances may not get to us in minutes. Volunteer firefighters do their best but they need support. That support comes in the form of STARS. Just the sight of a STARS Air Ambulance coming over the horizon brings much-needed hope.
We need STARS in our communities. They are our last-ditch lifeline to bringing our community members home. We hope that you will agree and help us support STARS.
