Mark Dufresne was taught the value of education, hard work and commitment at an early age. Mark grew up in Kenora, Ontario assisting with the family service stations, raising quarter horses and helping with the family farm while maintaining grades and still finding time to participate in sports and community activities.
Mark graduated from Asper School of Business and then earned his designation as a Chartered Accountant (CA) while working at KPMG. Later, Mark returned to Kenora to lead and grow the family furniture business. The company is now an international, multi-brand retailer under the umbrella of The Dufresne Group (TDG). The company’s Canadian scope includes 14 Dufresne Furniture stores, 27 Ashley HomeStore locations, 143 storefronts operating as part of the Dufresne Retail Solutions Group (dRSG) and the supplier of furniture and appliances for the North West Company which includes 140 stores in Northern Canada. The company’s US scope, a partnership of the Dufresne Spencer Group (DSG) based out of Memphis, Tennessee has 87 locations and is the largest Ashley HomeStore licensee. Combined TDG & DSG employs over 4,000 team members.
Mark is an advocate for education, hard work and commitment. He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and is involved in various social responsibility efforts in the USA and Canada, some of those specific to Manitoba include: the Children’s Hospital Book Market, Habitat for Humanity, the United Way, Big Brothers and Sisters as well as other organizations supported through the Dufresne Foundation, a foundation dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities TDG operates in through the support of women, children and health care.
Above all Mark loves his role as a supportive partner to his wife Stephanie and father to their daughters, Alexandra, Elizabeth and Rachel.
Why did you choose to participate in this event?
It’s been a busy few years for the Dufresne Group, some time on an island was appealing!
Being a pilot myself, I am very excited for the ride and this fantastic event. I’m looking forward to sharing the experience with a great group of individuals.
Why do you support STARS?
Stars Air Ambulance provides such a unique and needed service in Manitoba. Serving the communities we operate in is very important to our community and to me personally.
What will be your indispensable piece of survival gear or good luck charm?
I don’t have an indispensable piece of survival gear or good luck charm. I believe success comes down to your ability to create a vision, the path to achieve that vision, and the leadership and team to execute on it. My vision is Rick, Bruce and Alan will do the heavy lifting on the island, I’ll provide any needed encouragement!
